Brainstorming Council Endorses Supreme Court Report

On February 2, 2008 the Tampa Bay Region Mental Health Brainstorming Council resolved to endorse the Florida Supreme Court's Report on Transformation of Florida's Mental Health System.  The resolution also included support for funding the Community Reinvestment Grant program and funding for implementation of the Supreme Court's recommendations.
 
Below is the text of the resolution:
 

RESOLUTION:

CALLING ON THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO
CONTINUE FUNDING COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT GRANTS; AND

FUND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS IN THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT REPORT ON TRANSFORMATION OF FLORIDA'S MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM

WHEREAS, the Tampa Bay Region Mental Health Brainstorming Council is convened in the important election year of 2008 for the purpose of finding and implementing common goals of the various organizations represented; and

WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature previously funded Community Reinvestment Grants for improving the intersection of criminal justice and mental health; and

WHEREAS, the Florida Supreme Court made specific recommendations for transformation of Florida's Mental Health System into one depending primarily on community based services which would necessarily reduce the amount of crime arising from unmet needs in the arena of mental health; and

WHEREAS, the Tampa Bay Region Mental Health Brainstorming Council wishes to sound its aggregate voice to support continuing funding for Community Reinvestment Grants and for funding implementation of the recommendations of the Florida Supreme Court in its report on transformation of the Florida Mental Health System;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations of the Tampa Bay Region Mental Health Brainstorming Council, which is an assemblage of the various mental health organizations throughout the counties of Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota, calls on the Florida Legislature to continue funding Community Reinvestment Grants and fund the recommendations of the Florida Supreme Court in its report on transformation of our state's Mental Health system.
